The film's main strength is the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects less than many others. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets that result in some really horrific scenes throughout the film.

The cast delivers a strong performance with Kane Hodder being the most intimidating villain. It's like an '80s slasher movie and the dialogue is somewhat funny and snarky. There are moments of humor in the movie which add humour to the bloody action.

However, due to the limited budget (reportedly only $1 million) most locations used are repeats from earlier films in the series--the identical boat house was used twice in the film and much of it appears to be a re-use from other films in this series. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films may feel like the film is familiar.

Overall, Hatchet 3 was enjoyable although it was very similar in tone to previous entries within the series. It was filled with gory thrills as well as Hatchet 3 movie some entertaining performances from the cast members.
